This showed tried to fit to many genres into one is it a historical anime is it supernatural is it mecha I don’t know it’s too much stuff. Yasuke seems like an interesting character but it feels like they should have focused on his history as a samurai of nobunaga rather than what this story is. This story is rushed and not well thought out at first I think it’s gonna be a man taking a sick girl to be healed now she’s some kind of mage wait no she’s the freaking messiah also did you know there is a spirit world and a demon queen oh and robots exist in post feudal Japan this is so stupid. Most of the supporting cast feels lazily written and when I started to like the mercenaries they all basically die !!!. I don’t know much about Yasuke but I feel like these people didn’t either they just looked at the first paragraph on a Wikipedia page and said ok now how do we make the first black samurai interesting like how is that now already interesting last samurai was about an whiteman turned samurai and that was enough why wasn’t it enough for yasuke which was also a true story but they ruined it by trying to add to much. Maybe they thought they could make a Afro samurai series but Afro samurai worked because it established a world that we knew wasn’t gonna be like our own it was a dystopian future with the cultures of humanity on the brink of death in this it’s supposed to be back when gunpowder was invented and they know magic and create mechas. I just hate this show a lot and I hope the next time they do something yasuke related they actually read about his story and his experiences during Japan’s unification by the hands of Oda Nobunaga and his son who completed his fathers work after he was betrayed.
