This feels like an incomplete book, it has all the hallmarks of an upcoming sequel. If not, this is just lazy writing. It gets tedious only because there is no follow-up or completion to the tedious build-up. I could not confidently tell myself that all that reading was worth it when in the end, there was no reason for it all.
