This film is an impressive effort in many ways. The effects, the style, sheer scale of the film... it looks and feels like a big blockbuster! Unfortunately, effort doesn't always translate into achievement. There was definitely a good deal of fun to be had in the first half of the movie but as it meandered through a range of scenarios in different locations it started to feel like it was losing its way. It was hard to keep the suspension of disbelief going as I realised this film just about everything! Everything that could possibly be lifted from just about every other action flick ever made. There was so little here that was original and it became very predictable and silly at times and so drawn out that towards the end of the film I found I didn't care who won. At over 2 hours long it needed to be much more engaging to maintain interest. I loved that it was Aussie made and actually set in Aus too but that extra ingredient was not sufficient to save this movie. I hope the next (final?) chapter does get released and I hope it's a much better movie. I'm not sure I'm confident either will happen.
