This film is the biggest and ugliest manipulation of all times. I felt sick in my stomach and left the screening half way through watching.
The way it is made is incredibly deceiving as it follows the recent trend of casting irrelevant etnicity actors for the roles. The combination of putting the stunning, very convincing and accurate depicting of Victorian England and completely irrelevant ethnically actors to show that we are all "equal" and that it does not matter who portrays who. Black and Asian men play English gentlemen. I normally would have no problem with that if it was not meant to cheat on the viewer as if it says:"look. This is how it was back in time". It is so deceivingly smuggled on the screen it is unreal.
Just to make my point clear: I am not a racist of any kind. Living in London I know people of all origin working hard and being amazing at what they re doing. I believe in giving chances to all as long as they want to contribite in bringing the values in the society, creating history and spreading love and enlightmemt. I will however disagree with altering history so the "G" generation feels good without earning it. It is almost as ridiculous if the director chose the cow or a chicken to play a leading role just because they suffer injustice in cages and we owe them a wild card and an apology. Would you find it relevant? Most likely not. It is a manipulation that will bring a false image to the generation of my children of what was the history like. And this is deliberately and fakely done forcing the lie on the viewer of this movie.
