I really liked this book, but it was very confusing for me if I’m being honest. I felt clearly that the author was sending a strong message about healthy ways for us to relate across racial lines, and do so in a respectful way. But the more I tried to relate to it, the more confused I became. Maybe I’m less evolved than I believe (certainly this is one of the messages), but I found myself asking many times what I can learn from this story, what would help in the big picture that is America today? I really tried, but in the end I just didn’t get it. But I did enjoy the story, and the characters were revealed in a wonderfully satisfying way.
