Very real human story needing to be told with good actors in an amazing setting.

I saw this film as a 24 year old woman.It was hailed as a must see exceptional artistic movie.The film shocked me for its casual depravity, inhumanity and lack of moral values from the 2 main characters.Women were particularly objectified and debased. It branded my negative impression of Depadieu then a new and upcoming actor throughout his brilliant career .Patrick Deware went on to terminate his own life 8 years later, connecting his character of the movie with a traumatic real life event. This seemingly "harmless" movie can even today bring back the feelings of utter hopelessness of the human condition.
