Every once in a while the writing, directing, and acting components of the entertainment galaxy perfectly line up. The result is a beautiful work of art, derived from an unexpected ensemble of puzzle pieces, none of which are later discovered missing. Anya Taylor-Joy’s impeccable portrayal can’t be overstated but I would be remised If I failed to acknowledge the stunning acting of Isla Johnston - the younger Beth Harmon. Throughout the cart of talented professionals tasked to weave this delicately fashioned masterpiece, there is not one bad apple to be found. Although salty language, scenes of intimacy and other mature themes are definitely meant for adult viewing, if you invest the time to wade through the realistically-driven tale, I wager your journey into the beautiful mind of Beth Harmon will be one trip not easily forgotten.

Huh? Perhaps the creator of this film had good intentions; perhaps not - one can only guess. I sat through the film waiting for one smidgen of resemblance to scripture. Sure, as one review observed, the movie added another dimension to the biblical account but taking a sharp left turn while traveling the path of scripture (for the purpose of telling a story) is where fact yields to fiction. Quite honestly, I can’t fathom the purpose of this sidebar to biblical accounts from credible sources. I guess I can sum ut up the way I started this movie review…Huh?
