This novel, A Note From the No Fire Zone is by the award-winning author Kass Ghayouri. This book touches on the hardships the Tamil community faced during the ending of the civil war. The author discusses the everlasting journey for justice that a doctor endures as he is suffering in the Sri Lankan civil war as a minority. There were many deaths of innocent Tamils brought devastation to the world. Through the novel, we can identify that there is clear favouritism from the government towards the Sinhalese, and it caused tension between the majority and minority. This book brings awareness to the hardships the country faced. Revealing the truth of this country, that's seen as a paradise, brings the reader into a state of consciousness. My experience with this book was very eye-opening. As a first-generation Canadian-Tamil, I found that this book will forever resonate with me. The brutal pain can be perceived through stories of ordinary civilians, and it makes me reflect on life. The book leaves me with the need to help and bring more attention to the cause as the author and Dr.Varatharajah are doing. We were studying this book in my grade 12 English class, and it aided me to understand lenses and critics better. Furthermore, the descriptive imagery the author has used and the poems written in the book has enhanced it, and it is evident that a lot of work has gone into writing this novel. I have heard about the war from my parents however the way Ghayouri composed the novel with strong and meaningful diction, expresses the story that I have heard from my parents a million times from a literature standpoint. Kass Ghayouri has caused a positive influence and brought awareness to the Tamil community from releasing this book!
