Just watched the movie last night and I thought it was a good one! I read a lot of the reviews from professional movie critics but they’re all just opinions in my book. The movie was well narrated and there wasn’t a piece of the film that I felt lost in and I honestly don’t understand why Rotten Tomatoes gave this movie 1 star....
The movie brought reality in its storyline in more ways than one. Taraji always does a good job playing a woman scorned and I personally feel the pain through her performance. Her story is similar to many women on various levels, which is why I feel some type of way about majority of the critics being males. The movie showed the various levels women go through to save a relationship, only to be taken for a joyride in the end, however, I can see all angles of this particular story.
This new woman moved in on Robert during his most vulnerable time, but she somehow came through with the right dollar amount just as soon as he parted ways with his wife. How convenient was that? Seems as though she could have worked out a better deal for him sooner which leads me to believe this was part of her plan, too bad Robert didn’t see it and I’m sure he felt like he owed her for that life changing deal. Taraji said it best, “the first wife puts in all the work while the second one enjoys it.” Although it was generous of Robert to cut her a check for $10 million and buy her childhood home back, it still didn’t cover the emotional, mental distress he put her through for years! And only to move on with the dreams he had for them, but with another woman.
I will say that ending wasn’t good. I hate it ended that way and it could’ve been better. The ending felt very rushed and I didn’t like that, the whole yacht scene was weak. The movie was filled with so much emotion until the end when it turned into a scene from Die Hard or something. I just wish there was just as much emotion in the ending as it was throughout the movie.
Overall, the movie was great and very emotional on all levels. I recommend anyone that wants to see a psychological reality, you should watch Acrimony. Despite what critics say, it was a good film. I know that critics are looking for certain things in movies, but sometimes viewers are interested in an alternative reality. I personally felt that critics always give Tyler Perry a hard time, but what do I know...
