It is very interesting to view a world that is alien to most of us, and to watch the personal stories of the real people involved. I am binging season one, which is mesmerizing. ... One thing is clear from watching this — there are many injustices (punishing inmates for getting jumped, for example, as if they wanted to be assaulted), and areas where improvements could easily be made. For example, why don't they institute an in-house mail system so that inmates could send letters to other inmates rather than de facto forcing them them to send messages through toilets? (ugh!). How hard would it be to hire a person for two hours a day, or bring in volunteers to deliver the mail? And why didn't they send the men who purposely flooded cells with toilet waste to solitary? ... These are human beings, not wild boars.. I don't know why they can't treat them as human beings. You can still have order in confinement without robbing people of every shred of humanity.
