If you're wanting to play Ghost Recon Breakpoint because of 2017's Ghost Recon Wildlands, turn back now.
I don't think the reasons most of us enjoyed Wildlands were too abstract to explain. The setting was realistic, the missions and enemies were realistic, (if not a little exaggerated to help pose challenges), and the world felt generally realistic to play.
Breakpoint, on the other hand, takes you to a fantasy Pacific Island, ruled over by a fantasy tech giant, and you enemies are largely fictitious drones. The story line feels so ridiculous, as if the Ubisoft team learned nothing of the poorly received futuristic Call of Duty's the last couple of years.
Instead of perfecting the gaps that would have made Wildlands an absolute amazing experience, they decided to ignore those gaps, thrust players into an absolute unbelievable futuristic setting (making the forced dialog even worse to hear), forcing in some small parts of Assassin's Creed Odyssey which feel out of place, and generally leaving the game as unpolished as the difference between the current state of The Division and The Division 2.
But to make things much more dire than the current state of The Division 2, Breakpoint has already started so far in the wrong direction, that I don't think this game will ever last long enough to patch it and make it simply "as good" as Wildlands. What a shame, and an absolute hopeless situation this game was put in. I really hope this opens Ubisoft eyes, but considering how open they should have already been at this point after Division 2, things look quite dire for the next several years. I suggest several other games to play this holiday season, sadly.
