It’s not the best Star Wars movie, nor is it the worst. It has basic Star Wars elements like battles, chases, and lightsaber fights. Seemed like JJ Abrams and Chris Terrio had an endgame in mind but didn’t set a workable plot course to get there in the finished cut. They crammed in too many characters, events, and frankly could have had had a good movie if they stretched it out into two movies ala Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It could have allowed for some of the more emotional scenes and reveals to work better and pack more punch.
One review on IGN said it well: “Its a lot”. Everything felt rushed until the last act - and that killed any character development or gravitas. Still had thrills and emotional moments, but some were just nostalgic. It’s a 6.5 or a 7. Better than prequels (acting alone made that an easy call), weakest of the sequels, doesn’t approach R1 or originals. So it’s in the middle.
Also needs to work on security: the entire plot was online by September. Next time hide it better.
