Downhill wasn't exactly what I thought it would be. I was expecting a Will Ferrell style, zaney comedy, but this was much bleaker than that. The story definitely lags at times, but ultimately I found the play between Pete (Ferrell) and Billy (Dreyfus) to be entertaining and rewarding. Definitely more of drama then a comedy.
This bleak and depressing film, with its off beat nature and it's awkward comedy definitely isn't for everyone, but it hit a certain spot for me that I found irreverent and quite funny.
This movie likely would have benefited from an R rating and some sex and swearing, to make it a more adult comedy. By straddling the line of a family film it loses some of its potential humour
