The first ten minutes seems so forced. The ”diversity” and “realness” is so in your face, it’s distracting.
I noticed some of the people who like this movie said “I don’t usually like rom coms”. Well, you still don’t. This is not a rom-com. Rom coms, by definition, are feel good, cheesy and fun. This is cheesy, but not in a cute way.
I am a HUGE rom com fan, and I did not enjoy this movie at all. I went online to see if it was just me, but all the negative reviews pretty much summed up exactly how I was feeling.
I felt no connection to any of the characters, nor did I care. I never felt like I wanted to hang out with any of these women. The drug use was over the top (again, trying too hard to seem “real” or “inclusive”).
I love Gina Rodriguez in Jane The Virgin, and this seemed like in this movie she was trying to hard not to be Jane. Actually, it seemed like Jane if she did drugs and cussed. I would like to see her do a role where she doesn’t cry. She cries in every episode of JTV! She does a great job at it, but it seems like her go-to now.
