Waited a day before making a review to let the hype die down a bit and now i thought it's about time i wrote a review with my thoughts on the movie, a long time Dragon ball fan's perspective on how the movie delves into the Super series and into the franchise as a whole, this will be rather long so buckle up for a long read. Will try to keep it as spoiler free as possible
1) The Experience :-
I might be fanboying a bit here but it's not a stretch to say this is the best anime action film TO DATE!! If u don't watch this movie in the big screen at a cinema hall( preferably one equipped with IMAX) then ur doing both the movie and urself an injustice, i was lucky enough to get to watch this movie in a theater equipped with Dolby atmos and all i can say is that the experience was heavenly, both as a Dragon ball fan and a action film fan i was satisfied. The hall was packed full of Dragon Ball fans so when a epic scene came up the Wows and cheers were real and loud, overall the cinematic experience for this movie has been my best cinematic experience of my life so far.
2)The movie :-
The movie as claimed by many is the Best Dragon ball movie of all time and is possibly toriyamas magnum opus when it comes to films and after seeing the film i can't help but agree with them, this film is in a league of its own, in terms of both story and animation. The animation was sub-par to non and has some of the best animations if not the best animations seen in any action anime film to date, every thing from the colours to the fast spaced action scenes were just amazing, not at one point did the movie lose in animation quality. Though for some the CG was the low point but on the bright side they did not use any cheap CG but instead went with the expensive good CG and thus it wasn't an eyesore and was passable the that too isn't a issue since CG is a very little part of the film, Saying this film was beautifully animated would be an understatement to say the least. As for the story it completely retcons the original events leading up to planet vegeta, instead of the original they go with the new origin story from DBM, i think they knew that many fans weren't a big fan of DBM thus did not follow it's events completely and instead made some minor changes to appease the fans of the original backstory, the retcon done in the movie is better then the one done in DBM and most fans do agree on that. And as for the new broly retcon and backstory, there's not much to say except that it indeed is better then the original though it shouldn't come as a surprise to most DB fans since the original broly had a very weak backstory and it was almost impossible to write a story worse then that and indeed this was a much needed improvement for the fan favorite character( despite some fans being jelly that he isn't completely ruthless anymore). Indeed he is a much more likeable character and his new character design and model is a step up from his original for sure.
3) Conclusion :-
All in all the movie was a solid 10/10 for me, with my only real critics being that the BGM in some of the fight scenes could've been better instead of that tribal chanting type of music and also that the movie should've been longer, while watching the movie it's pretty obvious a lot of good stuff was cut out to make the movie smaller( it's like 1hr 30mins long) that isn't always a good thing, especially in this instance where it's obvious the initial backstory part was meant to be longer and much more story rich, makes u wonder how better and different the movie would've been if they went with toriyama's original 3hr script for the movie. Imo the movie should not have been cut below 2hrs, at that point it's pretty apparent they cut out some pretty important and good elements to save time. It's sad really since the movie started out real good and had a good sense of seriousness and emotions through out the initial backstory section of the film and would've been much better if it had only been longer with more context, i just hope they release a extended blue ray version of the
