This film about the artist Lowry, his relationship with his mother and his authentic art is a piece of such beauty. The cinematography at times leaves you spellbound with its captured moments. The actors are extraordinary and Vanessa Redgrave portrayal is original and heartfelt and at times heartbreaking. Tim is wonderful as the son, seeking his mothers approval. While Lowry is moved by moments of beauty and the telling of stories through his art, his subject matter of depicting the lives of the hard working men and women around him drove a wedge between them due to her disdain for the ordinariness of the subjects. I just loved it.

This movie is outstanding and an introduction to much of the population of the courage of the navy and merchant navy in the Allied pursuit to supply Britain with fuel and food for the war effort. The technological And strategic skill of the crew absolutely floored me as these people were mathematicians and professionals in the way they had to plot courses and relay instructions. The mighty destroyer became a living beast responding to the commanders Will. These people were brave beyond words. This movie is a Masterpiece.
