This book had so much potential but would have benefited from more ruthless editing. I wavered between intrigue and boredom, sometimes putting it down for weeks because I lacked the attention span required to make sense of it. I loved the characters, and the jumping back and forth through time could have been enjoyable, had there not been so many unnecessary details and whole passages that I had to read and reread before concluding that I’d never understand what the hell just happened. At the end of the book I was underwhelmed, but also proud of myself for managing to get through it. The fact that I loved the characters so much is what saved this book from a far worse rating.
