I understand why many Star Wars fans disliked this one, as it was very different than the others, but that's why it's my favorite of them. It's not just a good Star Wars, it's a good film. The themes, cinematography, the acting, the writing, was all extraordinary. The character development device between Rey & Kylo allowed for incredible chemistry between the actors and made me as the viewer genuinely unsure of what would happen or who would 'turn'. I know many disliked what they did with Luke Skywalker as a character, but his character arc was incredible and allowed for one of the most incredible truths ever from a movie. Failure. Failure is the single greatest teacher, and it is not only ok for people to fail, it's a natural part of the learning process, and what allows for someone to become a master of any craft. This is Luke's arc, he begins the film as an absolute failure, and from that grows into a legend that will inspire generations to come.
I vividly remember sitting in the theater and being so blown away by this movie to the extent that it's one of my favorite movies period. It's not like other Star Wars movies, because it has evolved and become something newer and more beautiful.
