Am unlikely plot for 1970 characters. It reminds me of might have happened in the 30's, (especially attitudes about Roman Catholic attendance at mass as an outward sign of family loyalty). These characters are trying to survive while flower children go to rock concerts.

The book is 70 years old. Even in 1951 biologists were aware that putting polar bears in cells far away from their arctic habitat was not wise.
Seuss liked to make up silly rhimes &silly drawings to challenge children. The book could have focused on the amazing diversity of real animals extinct & extant in their own habitats.
