(SPOILERS)Well to start off i did not like how they explained why the predators ripped the spinal cords out of their unfortunate victims, i liked the idea they took trophies for no specific reason. Also the cgi in this movie is really lackluster, some of the parts with the ultimate predator looked horrendous, id even go so far as to say that ive seen better special effects in an asylum production. The whole idea that the predators go from planet to planet collecting DNA to hybridize themselves to become the deadliest hunters in the galaxy is....cool to say the least, but the idea that the predators hunt the most dangerous game to observe the way they hunt and kill to make themselves better killers. I had the same problem with Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween and Alien Covenant, they tried to give a backstory to something that didnt need it. The xenomorphs were mysterious in the sense that we dont where they came from and how they came to be the "perfect organism". It gave the xenomorphs the fear of the unknown, but now we know that a robot created them just because he was fascinated with life...great. Michael Myers is scary because he kills for no reason other than the fact that he is the embodiment of evil. But i digress,now we know why the predators kill when we didnt need to know why because we already had a small idea as to why. Thats not to say the movie was all bad, i really enjoyed the predator parts but those parts are few and far between. The characters are cardboard cutouts and i didnt care when, inevitably, most of them were killed. Most of the comedy was bad and didnt land well and seemed like 8 year old wrote them. And the ending, of course, teases a sequel that was inevitable but im just not happy where this franchise is headed. I hope in the near future predator gets the reboot treatment and ignores this film in its continuity and just starts where predator 2 or predators left off, or ignore all the sequels, like the new halloween, and just leaves predator 1 in its continuity. To summarize my review i think the predator is a dumb movie with bad characters, stale comedy, an interesting premise but just isnt executed properly, and the scenes that include a predator are the best.
