The wait for the 3rd novel in the Thomas Cromwell trilogy is over!! The Mirror and the Light is nearly 800 pages, and not a sentence is wasted. If you haven't read the first two books, you will understand and enjoy the story. but Oh!! what joyous riches await those who have stored Wolf Hall and Bringing Up the Bodies into their hearts and minds. It's like going to the best party ever after years away from home, and making the re-acquaintance of everyone you know so well. People are always surprised at how full of suspense the story is, and never more so than in The Mirror and the Light, because we see even more deeply into the unique and unexpected thoughts and feelings that cause the characters to behave as they do. And Thomas, Thomas Cromwell - the first two novels take you deep into his thinking and some way into his feelings. I didn't expect that any anguish of this brutal man would break my heart in pity of his suffering, but The Mirror and the Light shows you his soul and leaves you weeping... (Also, James Wood, you can go to Hell.)
