Superbly conceived and written narrative, it hooks you in no time. I am reading it the third time, and each time it adds a new perspective to the study of Neuroscience. Sam Kean, like a wizard, weaves the plot deftly with his in depth background research of the characters and their minds, bringing them out their human nature, as well as the prevalent political and personal rivalries, customs and practices of the period in each of he chapters. Personally I consider the first two chapters (A Tale of Duelling Neurosurgeons, and The Assassin's Soup) to be masterpieces. The book is literally a gem in neurological literature.
