Derrin Govender

I enjoyed reading this book. Reading the book felt like watching a well directed movie. The story follows a white South African family over multiple decades as they deal with the internal family politics as well as the changing social and political landscape of the country. I particular enjoyed the use of dry, almost dark humor by the author to balance the heaviness of the themes and characters.

Possibly one of my favorite book of all time. Although I've only read this book once, but the story and themes contained within it has always remained with me.

A story of two young Jewish brothers that have to find their way back to their parents during WW2. The story takes place in France and gives the reader insight into what the mood during a period of WW2 was like in that country. The book is well written and the story is told in way that keeps the reader engaged with the emotions and differing sentiments of the people in France at the time.
