I agree with Sarah Christine's comment. People may give this movie a low rating because they think it's stereotypical and racist. However, since I have a Middle Eastern background, I believe that this movie was what everyone needed to see. The Middle East is in fact behind our western culture today. There's not a lot of women's rights there like there is in the United States. Individuality, freedom of expression, religion, education, and speech are not always given rights for other conservative countries . When Samantha Jones is told by Miranda to " Cover up" because "it's not respectful" the clash of the two different culture are seen. Then we see that that the group of Middle Eastern women are not that different from the four New York City girls. Under the hijab, they also all have the amazing, colorful, designer dresses. The only difference between the two groups of women is that they don't have the freedom to express themselves with these "too revealing clothes" like Miranda, Carrie, Charlotte, and Samantha because society won't allow them. Their voices would only be defeated by those men who feel in charge of them in the marriage and therefore them which is alienation of identity. If anything, this movie is portraying how these four strong and independent women from NYC were able to encourage and inspire other groups of women from across the globe to continue putting themselves first, and to support one another in their community so that their voices wouldn't diminish . Carrie's book bought them together . The movie is telling us that as women we should all support one another from everywhere around the world not just the U.S because not everyone is granted a voice. Aside from that note, in the movie, Dubai is described as "The New Middle East," and no one can disagree with that. The Hotel's architecture is luxurious. There's also the Arabic language, some of the most famous Egyptian/ Lebanese actors, Egyptian music, belly dancers, and other aspects of the culture. Maybe there should have been more Middle Eastern Fashion ( because not every woman wears a Hijab ), and jewelry to show the audience how futuristic Dubai is ,yet there is still a lot of culture in this movie .It shows that The Middle East isn't an empty desert filled with poverty and war . Instead, it's realistic to what you would actually see if you visited. There's art, nationalism, history, advanced technology, architecture, and normal friendly people. For 2010, this was an iconic movie and it still remains a good movie ahead of its time. My advice for viewers is to take what is good. Why try to make yourself not enjoy a good movie with great actors, humor, and a meaningful message? Then you'll never enjoy anything in life.
