As a Dutchman and a Jew it makes for harrowing viewing, but it is excellent. As a child I had uncles who came home to liberate Holland with British XXX Corpse and the US 82nd Airborne Division . A friend of theirs was with the resistance in the Arnhem area.

It is great fun as a fictional story, however, the occupation of aGermany was an all-military undertaking until 1948 and the Marshall Plan. Even then Allied families were not permitted in Germany. A ' wives club' could not have existed until at least 1950.
