I was really excited to watch this since I have a degree in history with an emphasis on European history. I didn't mind the film/documentary mix, the sets were neat, the acting was fine, and the history seemed pretty stable (it didn't delve into very many details, though, and was a little rushed). However, I only made it a bit into the 2nd episode. I was sick of the unnecessary full-frontal nudity and sex scenes. Why can't we just let history speak for itself? The Romanov story is so interesting and the substantive parts were good, why do they feel the need to throw in this explicit material? I don't feel comfortable watching it anymore, with or without company (which is a shame, since I was enjoying the actual story).
