I think that people who want this to be a whimsical sci-fi film are disappointed and those who see it as a dive into the realm of addiction enjoyed it. I was one of the later and I saw the sign of addiction and the behaviors of those I have loved that have suffered from it throughout the film. I liked that there were moments where you started to believe that MAYBE it was real and another world and this was just a fantasy realm because it is somewhat how those experiencing it go through those moment. I really enjoyed it. It was sad and lovely and strums the string of empathy.
