Shantae and The Pirate's Curse is a fantastic platformer with very tight controls! The music is absolutely superb and the mechanics of combat and overall platforming are smooth and carefully crafted. The visuals are a bit dated, but still look great due to it's wonderful art design. It's vibrant cast of characters stand out and make the world seem truly alive. If there are any complaints to be had, it would have to be the game's length. I was able to 100% complete it in a little over 10 hours. The one thing this games short play time benefits though, is replayability. The dungeons are well designed and dense, which makes them a treat to revisit. The areas are vibrant and packed with hidden goodies, which are never too hard to find as long as you keep an eye out and remember where to use each ability. This feature is common in metroidvania style titles, and the developers at Wayforward mastered it. Overall, Shantae and The Pirate's Curse is an amazing short, but sweet title that is great for fans of the series and newcomers alike. If you enjoy platformers and games such as Metroid, then you will probably enjoy this title. 9/10
