I like the authors world building. I think she's writes an enjoyable book. But she doesn't get the transition from boy to man.
She reminds me of a mother sending her son to war and having described his physical, mental and emotional punishments, which occur over and over again, then expects him to come home the same boy she sent away, who blushes at sexual innuendoes and enjoys his continued childish petulance.
The develpment arc of the main character, or lack thereof, unto these horrendous fortunes simply don't stack ongoing. Fitz simply isn't a believable character by this third book. He just wouldn't be a boy.
I think the author sees Fitz-Chivalry with a mothers eye, infantilised and set in aspic despite his life experiences, and he will never develop from them and become a man to her accordingly.
Opportunity missed for me.
