I will watch ANYTHING Adam Driver does, no matter what genre of film/tv it is. Now, I will freely admit to hating musicals. I can think of 3 that don't completely suck. This isn't one of them. 20 minutes into the movie & I had to pause it. I smoked a couple bowls, grabbed some wine & decided to try again. And it still sucked. Paused it again. Took a shower, smoked again, downed the entire bottle of wine & prayed that the second half of the film would redeem the first half. NOPE. Christ Jesus, I don't think a brick of cocaine would bring life to this hot mess. Adam really gave it his all, & he's definitely the best part of the film, but this musical is the worst I've EVER seen. Actually, let me go further. This movie actually is one of the 3 worst movies I've ever seen in my life, & I am a dedicated cinephile of 41 years. For the love of Jesus, do NOT waste 2 1/2 hours of your life watching this. Go watch Adam Driver in Paterson. Or Girls. Or Marriage Story. Or BlacKkKlansman. Or The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Or Frances Ha. Or his Burberry commercial. Literally ANYTHING ELSE but this crapola.

"Hillbilly Elegy" on Netflix should win every award ever created for cinema. If Amy Adams & Glenn Close don't win Oscars for their performances, then the Academy is just a steaming pile of doggy doo doo. I cannot recommend this movie enough. It's what movies should be. There are no special effects, no car chases, no green screens. It's acting at its rawest & realest. What an achievement by Ron Howard, as well. I'd venture to say he has a shot at Best Director. Go watch this film & see what acting at its best looks like.
