As a hardcore transformers fan, the more I think about this show the more I hate it. The first problem that stuck out to me was the voice acting. Every single Decepticon except Megatron and Soundwave has the same raspy villainous voice. The Autobots were mostly fine, Optimus just sounded stupid. I’m fine with other actors taking a crack at Optimus Prime’s voice but the reason Netflix didn’t hire Peter Cullen for his voice is downright sickening. The second thing that stuck out to me was the uninspired character designs. It’s just G1 for the millionth time but with slight changes to make the designs pass as “Cybertronian”. And on that topic, the autobots don’t spend even remotely enough time in their vehicle modes. In fact the only ones we get a good look at were Cog and Optimus. On later viewings, I grew to honestly despise Optimus’s character in this show. He’s so irrational and downright stupid at times. Walking into the obvious Allspark trap set up by Megatron and Shockwave was so infuriating to watch. And my last major issue is the pacing. The show feels like a total drag yet rushed at the same time. 6 episodes was not nearly enough. The show should have been 10 episodes long. That way it would still feel like a mini series but would allow for proper character development and better pacing. With all of that said, I love the way this show looks. If it weren’t for Rooster Teeth’s incredible job with the animation my rating would probably be a 2 or a 1. There’s honestly so much more that I could talk about but I don’t have all day to write this out, and you don’t have all day to read it out.
