A mind melting, body morphing, visually stunning exercise in cosmic horror. A journey down the rabbit hole of eldritch influence as a family (and the land around them) slowly succumb to a truly alien and unknowable entity. In typical Lovecraftian fashion things start normally enough, but the film builds tension and horror like paint on a canvas, flooding your mind with its, at times beautiful, and always unsettling imagery and themes, taking what makes your skin crawl and establishing that as your new "normal".
The performances are great, the effects are amazing and if you can look past the few small plot holes (which mainly arise due to its modernization) and aren't expecting everything to be explainable in human terms, then you will be greeted with a preternatural delight I never thought possible to bring to the big screen at all, let alone to do so in such a jaw dropping fashion.
