Normally I don’t write reviews, but B5 is one of those shows that either you love it or hate it. I am one of those who love it, but I was in high school when it started airing and was very “impressionable.” That said I think the show is a real gem for the period it was written in, the competition against ST:DS9 and SG-1, and how it was consistently understaffed and underfunded. Shows like Battlestar, the Expanse, and other Sci-if shows that have story arcs that take seasons to resolve owe a lot to B5. Is it campy? Yes!! Are some of its messages over the top? Of course. Aren’t the computer graphics kind of basic, even for the time?? You bet. But everyone of those answers also reflect the risks the writers, producers, and actors were willing to take. The fact that the show was nominated for multiple awards with other shows that had budgets that were 10 and 20 times larger I think speaks for itself.
