Not my cup of tea. I don't know what people see in the Orville to call it the next Star Trek or "more Trek than Disco." I strongly disagree with that. I find the Orville stale, low rent treacle, flat and uninspired. Some confection for people who miss TNG version of Trek.
I just don't see anything worth getting excited about even in the second season the critics apparently rave. Everything the Orville does has been done before in other Trek series and why watch them go over well worn territory?
I usually just tune in to Brooklyn Nine Nine anyway, and when B99 is done I catch the latter half of Orville, and I never feel like I've missed anything. That is the greatest condemnation I have for Orville. It gives me no reason nor desire to watch it.
The Orville feels like a copy of a copy of a copy.
Star Trek Discovery is vibrant, new, challenging, not just going over old territory, the characters feel alive, compelling, and I never want to miss a second of their adventures.
