This is the first review on Google that I have ever given for any show. Not only being a part of the film fraternity would I support this but more importantly as a former student of history. Firstly from the historical perspective, one has to understand that History has always been written by the victors and remains subjective. What I already liked about the show from a Historical perspective is that Babur has been portrayed as like any other conqueror in History who had his shortcomings and went ahead on his conquests. This is what every King has done in history be it in India or anywhere else in the world. From the Mauryan Empire to the Cholas to every empire that existed in pre democratic history, this was the motive of every empire of the day. So to single out the Mughals as the only invaders of the time is absolutely wrong. Also please carefully watch the show to see that there are many instances where Babur's inhumane side has also been revealed. However, where in history can you prove completely that no Emperor had an inhumane side. That is where every human has the scope of evolution since no one is perfect. So to say that 'The Empire' is glorifying Babur as a too good to be true king wouldn't be fair at all. Let us also not forget, that it is the Mughal dynasty succeeding Babur who shaped India over the centuries. Not to discredit the patriotism of Bahadur Shah Zafar even on his death bed. The other thing as a former student of history, is that this show definitely enlightened me and many others about Babur's life before entering Panipat. In our history books we only know about Babur's conquest in 1526 and that he was an 'invader' from Central Asia. This is why I really got intrigued to watch this show as to learn more about him as an observer and a keen history student. Now coming to the cinematic part of it all. I definitely think that the performances were wonderful starting from Shabana Azmi, Rahul Dev and Kunaal Kapoor who truly excelled in understanding their respective characters. In any epic show it is extremely important to notice the production design, the music, the costume styling, prosthetic makeup and what not. So aesthetically, this is a brilliant show. For those who think that this is a "Game of thrones" rip off primarily because of the animal skin robes of the central Asian kings and also because of the dark color grading, then well it is also important to recognize that most Central Asian cultures were nomadic and hunting cultures so for them it is normal to wear such clothing. All in all, please watch this show without any preconceived notion with any religious flavor. Watch this to enhance your knowledge of India's history as this certainly will do justice in doing that.
