I was born and raise in Hawaii as a Caucasian, Asian, Hawaiian. I’ve seen every location hundreds of times. My dad lifeguarded at several of the beach locations in the film and still does. Let me tell you, this movie is soooo far off base it’s ridiculous. No and I mean NO Hawaiian goes around saying “Aloha” every two seconds and I literally went to Hawaiian cultural camp with Kamehameha Schools on Maui for a week and not even the fluent speaking Hawaiians who taught our group (which you could only attend if you are Hawaiian) said Aloha that much, intact I think I only heard it 3 or 4 times and it’s wasn’t to greet anyone. Or even used in a general conversation, it just sounds cringe and force in this movie. Plus half of the pigin they spoke isn’t even real. This movie is a total joke. The fact that it’s rated so high for tells me more mainlanders are watching it then anyone else and NO WONDER the island is being over run with tourists they see movies like this and assume the island is still untouched and beautiful when in reality the reefs are dying, sewage is constantly being dumb in rivers the flow into the ocean and soon there’s goin to be no where to build homes.
This movie is a waste of time. If you want a more realistic view go watch Blue Crush.
