This made me reflect on the pressures that I felt at that age to grow up too fast. All the girls I knew felt it. I think that at that age you start to become self-aware of the multitudes of expectations of what it means to become a woman, and the figuring it out process can be pretty awkward and uncertain, and it can sometimes go too far. It is fascinating to watch the juxtaposition of her being told she's a woman now in the eyes of her conservative culture next to the the imagery of what womanhood is in popular culture.
