Beautiful in the ways that broken things always are. This movie isn’t asking to be understood, it’s not morally correct; it’s not meant to be. This is an artistic piece, it’s symbolic. Is the story a bit slow at times? Yes. Could it have benefitted greatly from a rewrite and better pacing? Definitely. But it was still good, still brilliant. This is one of the first movies in a while that actually embraces to originally concept of the comics that many of us fell in love with: it’s dark and it’s supposed to be. There is nothing that makes sense about the Joker, there never was. His whole concept was chaos incarnate and this is simply the decent into that chaos. Phoenix has an excellent portrayal, a very distinct one. He acts a couple of scenes, makes poses like a few of the past Jokers, but not as an imitation, simply as a head-nod to the source. He’s unique, the script was decent, the cinematography was excellent, the music choices and scores were brilliant, the psyche was beautiful, the art style carried the film, and it proved homage to the comics, past films, and television shows while still being it’s own creation. Is it perfect? No, far from it. But it’s still a damn good movie that embodied exactly what it tried to.

TL;DR The film is an over hyped cliched mess that while isn't great, is no where near good either. If predictable and boring films are enjoyable for you, then you might like it. Aquaman is very, very over hyped and not that great. Now, it's better than all previous DC films, but that really isn't saying much. Now, I like the comics. And I liked some parts of a couple of the Batman's and Wonder Woman was an OK flick. But Aquaman really is over hyped and kinda sucks. Might as well rename the movie 'Cliches's The Game' because while watching it that's all I could think of. Every moment, character, plot device, and villain is a cliche you've seen thousands of times before. You know what every character is going to say and do before they say or do it. Now, I'm not saying that cliche's are bad. One or two or ten is fine, but there has to be something else to support the cliche and make it enjoyable and new. This movie does not do that. Admittedly, the movie has pretty good CGI and lots of pretty colours. Hell, the plot wasn't even that bad. It's another cliche, but they handled it well and it wasn't bad. The problem was the two other subplots thrown in that did nothing but weigh the film down. It has a couple of jokes that aren't great, laughs are few and far between in this movie. There are no lines or scenes that make you stop and think and everything that happens is explained and shoved down your throat in excruciating detail or never discussed at all. (I'm not even going to go into the mess that was ignored physics in this movie. There's at least 6 characters who should have died but didn't because MOVIE MAGIC) (That's not even included the main characters that should have died but didn't by stab wounds, drops, drowning, OPEN MAGMA, and big bad monsters that should have easily killed them) I don't want to go into the plot or characters really because I don't want to spoil the film, but it really is so predictable that you know what will happen before it happens. There is no secrets, there is no mystery. But granted, it isn't trying to be one of those films. Personally I just found nothing enjoyable here. There's a few good jokes, a couple of good characters, and pretty damn good visuals. But other than that? It's a movie you've seen thousands of times with gags you've seen thousands more. It is a bad film? No, not really. Is it a good film? Definitely not. It's just your run of the mill cliched film that is boring to watch, and over all just kinda bland all round
