I just finished watching the movie. I felt that the movie fell flat when I was in the first 30 minutes of it, everything was quite rushed and lacked depth and the details which made the book so popular and my favorite. The minute details and heartfelt dialogues is what connected the book to the readers which I think was missing in the but I guess we can't really expect everything in just a 2 hour movie! (sighs in disappointment) Nonetheless all the actors did a brilliant job in bringing the characters to life, I am very glad to see my imaginary characters in flesh and blood ~ as real people!! The actors did give their best to it and ot came as beautiful as it could. Taylor , Nicholas were lovely as Alex and Henry. There were quite many beautiful scenes like one in the Paris and the swimming area one. and ofcourse the museum one!! but still there were many things I missed so much like the old magazine poster of our young Henry ourJUNE!! and many more.
It was as if a bunch of scenes were pulled together and thrown at us. In the book we could sense the longing and pining when Henry kissed Alex for the first time and when Alex kissed Henry second time which was completely missing in the movie. There was gradual development from enemies to lovers but here it happened all so fast with blandness. But there very also some new scenes/variations added which was amazing and creative. And that's thr reason for my rating is 4 not 3. Because if they had cut scenes and just served us the pieces without trying to atleast bring in something else it would have been a disaster! And major reason for my disappointing maybe due to the marketing and promotion of the movie, we were basically shown snippets of most of the movie before the release itself, there wasn't nothing much left to see and experience the thrill.
Did I like the movie? Yess absolutely.
Did I love it? Nope!! sorry not sorry.
Am I disappointed?? very much
Maybe because I was so very excited and had very high expectations which wasn't quite delivered. But if you go without any prior expectations or if you read the book (for the first time) after watching the movie you'll love it.
But I will still appreciate the work and efforts behind this process of adaptation of our favorite book as a movie and bringing it to us.
Will I re-watch it?? maybe yes.
Could it have been better?? Hell yess.
Do I recommend you to watch?? Yes do give it a try.
