I particularly was interested to see the 1941 version. My uncle died in one of those pits in 1938 and I felt the grief for their and my family, who also had 6 children. Obviously there was more glamour than there would have been in real life, and it was quite sentimental, but hey, that’s the movies. I saw this in a US retirement community and the audience were mesmerised, mostly they had no idea about Wales and the mining valleys.
I think it should be shown to all high school students to enlarge their knowledge of the world and the past.
