I've seen this film a few times and really loved it. I've forgotten the name of it and tried a bunch of Google searches on classic films about a dissolving marriage or classic films about divorce but couldn't find anything older than Kramer vs Kramer or anything by Noah Baumbach.
IMO, Dodsworth definitely brings more to the table.

The performances in the first film were SO GOOD. Take the same actors and continue the story with an equally creepy premise to the first film but use the worst. most insipid. script. imaginable....and you got Poltergeist II.
