Charles Dodgson

One of those shows that draws one in with a promise but never delivers. I was captured by scenes of wet London streets and houses that looked familiar. Beyond this, was waiting for the characters to develop. They don’t and, by the finale, had me wishing I hadn’t wasted my time. And the plot twist. Simply unbelievable.

Wonderful settings and brilliant cast hamstrung with poor writing and terrible editing. You know a story is in trouble when it depends on cut aways to still images that contradict the dialogue just delivered. And the absurd killing off of characters just as an emotional connection is made is so irritating. I kept watching to see the gorgeous European settings; but felt so annoyed at the writers/editors leading me down dead end storylines.

Pretentious, disjointed, annoying with an extraordinarily ridiculous ending.

The narrative is difficult to pick up, though the individual episodic stories are simple. But once you find that narrative arc it is a delight and true to Gene Roddenberry’s vision of a socially inclusive future. Wonderful to see episodes in which all the main characters are women from diverse backgrounds. Excellent insights into how power and authority work. Highly recommended.

The worst movie I’ve ever seen. Lazy cliches, ridiculous violence, cheap directing tricks; like listening to discordant music: every time a storyline develops it is abruptly ended with absurd switches of tempo. Clearly an attempt to bring the lowest level of Hong Kong cinema into Hollywood, at least it’s a good representative of a Taoist hell.
