As a massive AC fan and as someone who has completed every game in the series thus far, I was expecting something special from this game. Especially after the refreshing brilliance that was Origins.
However I found this game far more laborious than fun. It feels like a second rate Witcher clone. The whole thing is a sludge fest of mostly tedious and repetitive side quests, that detract so much from the main storyline, you almost forget what you need to do by the time you've levelled up enough to be able to return to the story proper.
I don't think the islands are very representative of their real life counterparts either. The ridiculous overuse of fire and poison weapons (my only real bug bear with Origins) is tedious and makes for a trashy fantasy feel that doesn't fit with the theme of the rest of the series.
I know everyone has their own taste and own opinions, the extremely polarised opinions of Last Of Us 2 were very understanderable fof eg. However, this game I am genuinely gobsmacked at the amount of great reviews. I just find it nauseating and just plain tacky and silly in equal measure.
I really hope it's a different team behind the next game, because for the first time ever, I am considering not touching the next installment. Even after the Paris and London offerings, I didn't feel this let down!
