A beautiful retelling of one of the great classic sci-fi novels (well, the first part of it at least). Does a decent (though not perfect) job explaining to newcomers what is going on in the world, and why things matter. I watched this movie with two people who have never read the book and they had no problem keeping up. As expected, the effects are amazing. The pacing is slow but determined and dramatic. I also appreciate the way Dune’s technology has been implemented into this movie for 2021. It’s got great aesthetic and still feels practical in most cases (or, well, cool factor). Almost none of the campy horror cheese of the first movie. Is it perfect and absolutely 100% loyal to the book? Probably not. Was it enjoyable? Will I watch it again? Hell yes to both! Overall, I’m much happier with this version than the previous versions, and eagerly await the next installment!
