Ben Platt is just astounding in this. He gives a remarkable performance and couldโve driven a lot of the show by himself, and some of the themes and stories represented throughout the show are interesting and engaging to the point where I would want to watch more - but the best bits are short lived. They try to mix up timelines and do a show-the-end-before-the-beginning type thing and honestly I think the show suffers for it. There are also too many characters who are just there to make an unnecessary representation of all โtypesโ of people, in a bid to make it relatable to the majority of a watching audience. With no real purpose and quite obviously there for that reason, these characters are more often than not just annoying.
This is said as someone who actually couldnโt even get halfway through the first season, but I just didnโt care for the characters and the stories that ended up being focused on enough to carry on watching. Which is a shame because the seriesโ premise, the certain ideals that are explored, and Ben Platt, are amazing.
