Overtly political in a hamfisted way. Yes, I'm all for the values this show wants to promote but the way they do it is so clumsy and off-putting it really insults the viewer's intelligence. For example, at one point, Sabrina asks the witch girls why she can't have both power and freedom and they respond (and I'm paraphrasing but not by much) because they're women and the devil is a man.
The character Sabrina doesn't do much to add interest to the show as she's more figurehead than a real person, again, crafted with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer.
The plot is really awkward at times because the subplots and side characters don't interact with the main story in a meaningful way. I'm made not to care about Sabrina's boyfriend's home life, or her friend's struggles at school. Those things don't seem important in the face of battling the devil, so it all seems like so much filler.
I appreciate the special effects and darker, gorier direction the show has taken but that's about it.
