At last, a supernatural thriller, that constantly pushes back on the idea of just accepting an outrageous belief in the proposed supernatural antagonist. For me, living in the day to day, determining lies from truth, and all the psycho-drama that accompanies that ongoing endeavor, is a true horror. The ongoing tension of the characters having to decide of they will accept the hard to believe evidence enough to act on it resonates with reality that easily allows comparison and relatability from fantasy to the mundane. I had read the book and this translation of the story into this media form illustrates why distinct storytelling techniques are neccessary for each to be most impactful.

People are passionately debating the implications of many aspects of this film. I can't think of a better recommendation for a film. I will only say I believe it harps upon a current zeitgeist that has been causing many discomfort for so long that there are well established, reflexive defensive responses to being made to face the habitually denied. It says something that a movie about a COMIC BOOK villain is producing this level of response and prompting debate on many traditional serious topics. I think it very effectively does what it sets out to do within the perimeters of the art form. Whether any individual finds it entertainment is a personal reaction. However, given how our "news" has become "infotainment" I believe this is a movie that disturbingly is very much of our times.
