I got to play about 6ish hours yesterday, and my first impressions are:
1. The combat is good, balanced & makes you feel like a padawan. You’re not OP to the point where at least super early on, the force is negligeable in combat. But it gets much better as you get a feel for timing. It’s better than Force Unleashed imo, where I remember there were some force abilities that would clear out a room instantly.
2. Exploration is... somewhat frustrating. I like the whole map concept with no guiding HUD as you play, but it’s little more than telling you a general direction you need to go in, which is nearly useless when the target is so far out most twists and turns make it impossible to keep that direction. But it’s liniar enough that I very rarely got stuck looking around for more that 5 minutes.
3. My biggest gripe is freerunning. It’s executed nicely and it’s fun for 90% of the time, but some of the sliding sections are HORRIBLE. I am not exagerrating when I say there was one section in particular that took me 20 tries to get through. (It was a steep right, followed by jumping on a rope, going on more ice and doing an S curve). Not too crazy in theory, but it frustrated me terribly how clumsy the controls were there.
4. The story looks really promising. The opening act was brilliant, but the following 2 planets were kinda weak from a story perspective. Great mechanics-wise, that alone was keeping me engaged. But it looks like about 5-6 hours in the story picks back up, which put together with the awesome overall gameplay will make it a fantastic experience.
All in all, I’d say it’s a solid 8/10 for me, an amazing game. But that’s because it’s not my favourite genre (I’m more of an rpg guy). If it was, I’m sure it would be even higher up there.
If you’re on the fence about buying it, do it :) I’d say it’s definitely worth it.
