I have visited the UK 26 times having a keen interest in Country houses and nearby small villages. While visiting these villages I always saw memorials to villagers who lost their lives in the Great War. At first I didn’t pay a lot of attention to these memorials but at many of the country houses and estates run by the National Trust, English Heritage and private interests I would often see a small section with photos and descriptions of the people employed at these estates and their service in WWI. I wanted to learn more having not really been taught much in my school years here in the USA.
This film brought me a much deeper understanding of what that war was like for the people who served.
The technical achievements of the film makers, the patience required and trying to tell at least a part of the story in the soldiers own words and actual voices brought this all to life.
This film seems definitely a labor of love for all involved. If you wish to have a better understanding of what the war was like at least from a British perspective then I would highly encourage you to see this film. Kudos to the team that made this happen!
