Overall I have really enjoyed playing this game, and I'm on my third playthrough. I think the graphics are great, but there are some issues with shading and light balancing. I found that if I increased the brightness so that I could properly see in darker areas, it was lighter but then looked hazy and impossible to see in light areas and so I found myself constantly readjusting the brightness. I absolutely love that it takes place in South America, it's so beautiful!
I was kind of disappointed that so many of the people in Paititi look exactly the same, and many have the same voices. I was expecting more diversity. Enemies repeat the same phrases over and over and nauseum. Enemy behavior/movement is too predictable.
I found most of the story line to be underwhelming. I feel that Etzli should have been a little older and more involved in some of the combat situations. Lara came off as whiny at times, which made it hard to get attached. Jonah ended up being my favorite NPC. I played through all of the DLC, and the Path Home was a disappointment. The tomb was great, but the ending was pretty pointless. I would have liked to see more side quests
I think the vendors and currency were an unnecessary addition. With the massive surplus of resources available, it would have made more sense to just have Lara craft her own ammo & pouches. Schematics could have been added for upgraded bows, knives, etc. Instead, you have so much extra junk and nothing to use it on. It doesn't really make sense that Lara can pick up a shotgun in one of the questlines but can't loot NPCs for their weapons anywhere else.
Many of the outfits had minimal perks. As another reviewer said, while in Paititi (and you spend most of your time there) you have two different outfits to choose from depending on who you need to talk to for a quest. I'm not going to even bother with the outfits that give bonus xp, increased time for endurance and perception plants ( should have just made those skills) when I have outfits that give increased stealth or increased protection against fire, bullets and arrows. I ended up with 12 extra skill points by the end of my 2nd playthrough and nothing to use them on???
I'm on my third playthrough on the hardest difficulty, and it is VERY annoying that there are not more frequent checkpoints. I don't mind a setback if I die, but it shouldn't be a 10 minute setback.
